Overview of the IX Annual Cryotherapy Conference, organized by KRION

The IX Annual Cryotherapy Conference has been held in St.-Petersburg in May 2016.

The Ninth Annual Cryotherapy Conference took place in ITMO National Research University, St.-Petersburg, Russia in May.

Each year the event gathers scientific and medical specialists and representatives of the cryotherapy business.

The following reports on the Whole Body cryotherapy method were presented:

Besides the Whole Body cryotherapy issues, several reports on Local cryotherapy were presented.

I would like to stress some topics that had been discussed concerning the Whole Body cryotherapy.

1. Revising the contradictions.

Nowadays authors from different countries presume various versions and their own ideas of contradictions without the knowledge of the background of the method, and basing on not proved by practical research rumours.

The following cases are not to be considered as the Contraindications to use the Whole Body cryotherapeutic treatments:

Hypertention;

Diseases respiratory system;

Diseases of Cardiovascular system;

Polyneuropathy;

Metabolic disturbance.

2. The Whole Body cryotherapy effects decreasing the biological age.

Body’s defences weaken over time. It causes diseases when the immune system is not properly regulated. A week course of treatments in a cryosauna starts up immunomodulating effect that provides with the decrease of the biological age and affects the normalizing of the general state of the body.

3. Herniated disk.

The participants of the Conference confirmed that the Whole Body cryotherapy is widely used in the practice of repairing the Herniated disk. The course of massage before the cryo procedure and of 2 cycles of 20 cryotherapy sessions during 12 months allowed to eliminate the hernia (6mm).

4. Technical aspects of the equipment.

The group whole body units do not reach the same effect as the Whole Body cryosauna does. The main aim is to cool the cold receptors down to -2 °C (28,5 °F). The calculations performed by Krion specialist shows that the cabins temperature should be not higher than -130 °C (-200 °F). That is what quickly achieved in the cryosauna. While the gas exchange between the cabins inside a group unit precludes from a necessary time exposure at -130 °C (-200 °F).
