A Medication Platform for Patients and Physicians
Also called the “Yelp of Medicine,” the San Francisco-based digital health startup Iodine aims to expand data access to enable healthcare consumers to make better decisions about the medications they take.
Cofounded by former Google software engineer Matt Mohebbi and health journalist Thomas Goetz, this online platform allows patients to compare treatments, find top-rated medications and read about people’s experiences with more than 600 different medications, from Xanax to Tramadol. A person can even take a free depression test online.
The startup also recently released its new Iodine API for integration with patient portals, electronic health records, pharmacy apps or other medical information sites. This would make the site a useful tool for physicians, as well. For example, physicians might want to know that women prefer a certain antidepressant more than men do, or that older people tolerate certain drugs better than younger people.
Iodine was presented at the HIMSS Conference 2016 in late February.
