Digitizing Medical Imaging Across 1,600 Facilities

Accenture and Carestream are currently implementing a joint project in Andalucia, Spain

to deploy a picture archiving and communications system (PACS) to electronically capture, view, store and distribute medical imagery (X-ray, MRI, CT and ultrasound) digitally rather than using the old film system.

This system will allow clinicians to manage, store and share diagnostic imaging data across all of Andalucia’s 1,600 healthcare facilities. Any user in any location can immediately access any study performed at any facility in this region of 9 million inhabitants, even from a tablet or mobile phone, whether iOS or Android Galaxy.

Two data systems have been created capable of storing 1.4 petabytes each. They use an updated version of the Carestream Vue software. Partly funded by the E.U., this initiative aims to create one of the largest medical imaging systems in Europe.
