IDS. “Stratasys Set to Change the Game” With New 3D Dental Printer

Dental patients could see waiting times cut drastically with a new multi-material full-color 3D printer due to be launched in May.

The J720 3D dental printer from the company Stratasys promises to speed up turnaround times so dental labs can treat more patients and take on new cases without extra operating costs. It uses more than 500,000 color combinations to produce dental impressions for a range of treatment needs with extremely high resolution and accurate precision. Barry Diener, Dental Segment Sales Leader at Stratasys, said the J720 printer is set to “change the game.” He added: “Labs today operate in a very competitive space where differentiation counts on mastering the digital workflow and expanding into new products and services. The J720 Dental 3D Printer will allow levels of speed, productivity and realism the market has never seen. This powers laboratories to meet the demands of a competitive market and push the boundaries of digital dentistry.”

Stratasys technology is already used across many industries, including aerospace, automotive, healthcare, consumer products and education. In the medical field, it can aid with complex surgical procedures, such as tumor removal. In May, dental labs will be able to benefit from the technology which aims to reduce the need for post-production employee labor. The printer’s output is at 1.75x the daily throughput of high-end DLP and SLA 3D dental printers currently on the market.

GrabCAD Print Software

By reducing the post-production work often needed after small print bed single-material printers, the new technology is able to perform a range of applications at one time. Combining multi-materials and full-color realism, the J720 has the potential to increase patient acceptance of case presentations—offering realistic treatment models before work ever begins. Offering faster time-to-part, the 3D printer also achieves the highest-resolution 3D prints for models.

The J720 uses the industry award-winning software GrabCAD making it easy to transition from a CAD model to a 3D printed part. Software workflow is automatically streamlined, making it beneficial to large labs that use multiple systems. Additionally, the technology allows for Cloud connectivity, allowing for remote monitoring. This makes it easier for technicians to conduct remote monitoring—keeping track of multiple printers from a single source and automatically tracking material consumption and machine utilization. Enabling labs to save both time and money, the solution virtually eliminates requirements for manual intervention.
