First X-Ray Examinations in a Standing Position

Siemens has broken new ground with its Multitom Rax scanner, able to produce 3-D images of patients in a standing position

Two robotic arms move around the patient, who does not need to move. The system also works with subjects seated or lying down. With a patient in a weight-bearing position, the system sees what the patient experiences, particularly advantageous for orthopedics and trauma care. The arms can be aligned with an accuracy of 0.1 mm, and the system can produce both 2-D and 3-D images for fluoroscopy, angiography and tomography procedures. The Multitom Rax employs about the same levels of radiation as traditional devices.
