Implant Navigation Systems: GPS for Dentists

Implant navigation systems reduce procedure time and increase accuracy in the same way that GPS can help drivers reach their destination more efficiently

They usually include cameras, tracking software, handpiece and jaw attachments, as well as real-time calculations and display. Combining such systems with third-party cone beam tomography equipment can save dentists money and reduce patient radiation exposure. Some manufacturers claim implant accuracy of about one millimeter, far greater than when working from physical models. Such systems are now approved for use in the US, Canada, Europe and Asia. At least one Canadian manufacturer offers training at its home office or in dental offices.
