UPMC Pinnacle Memorial Celebrates Completed Frame of Future Hospital
Nearly 200 guests joined UPMC Pinnacle Memorial to celebrate a milestone in the construction of the future hospital. The last steel beam for the frame of the building was lifted into place as attendees joined in a celebratory toast at the topping-off ceremony.
Prior to lifting the beam atop the hospital’s fifth level, attendees had an opportunity to make their mark on history by signing the beam. During a brief program, UPMC Pinnacle leadership shared highlights of the project and what the future hospital will mean for the York community.
The project will feature:
Modern design with 130 beds on five levels, adding 30 beds to expand access to inpatient specialty care
Private rooms where all patients will be able to heal comfortably
Acute and emergency medical care, cardiology and vascular services, chronic disease management, surgical services and treatment for patients in need of long-term acute care
Three heart catheterization labs with suites specially designed for electrophysiology and interventional radiology procedures
Four leading-edge operating rooms, including one cardiac operating room, offering the community nationally recognized cardiac care in their own community rather than having to travel great distances
Expanded emergency department with 28 rooms located adjacent to imaging and catheterization labs for a quicker response to emergencies
Obstetrics unit featuring single-room labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum suites providing a family-centered birth experience
Level II specialty care nursery for newborns needing extra care
Multiple nursing stations in each unit that are positioned closer to patient rooms for better communication and response to patient needs
Medical office building next to the hospital with ambulatory surgery, a women’s imaging suite, sleep lab, infusion center and cardiac rehab program
It is anticipated that the building will be completely enclosed by the end of the year and ready to open in August 2019. The campus design also includes energy-efficient, environmentally friendly components, and a walking trail open to the community to promote health and wellness.
As construction continues, updates will be posted on UPMCPinnacle.com/TheFuture. The page includes project highlights, construction updates, photo gallery and a time-lapse video of construction progress.
