Philips Unveils New Radiation Oncology Imaging Systems

Philips is releasing a couple new systems for radiotherapy at the American Society for Radiation Oncology’s (ASTRO) annual meeting in San Antonio, Texas.

The Big Bore RT is a dedicated CT oncology simulator with built-in technologies such as iterative model reconstruction (IMR) for improved imaging of small details and for quick completion of reference protocols.

The new Ingenia MR-RT platform includes Philips’ Ingenia Elition 3 Tesla MR-RT and the Ambition X 1.5 Tesla MR-RT scanners. Both of the devices feature Compressed SENSE, a technology that helps to shorten scans by up to half the time. The Ingenia Ambition X is the first to sport the company’s BlueSeal magnet, which has very little helium inside and the helium doesn’t need to be managed as with other MRI systems. Moreover, since little helium is used, safety is increased and there’s no need for an exhaust pipe since an emergency quench is not possible. Additionally, the scanner is nearly a metric ton lighter than the model it’s replacing.
