FUJIFILM Unveils CT Scanner with Ultra-Wide Bore for Radiology, Radiotherapy

For the clinicians working on the front lines of the obesity epidemic, FUJIFILM is releasing in the U.S. a new wide-bore CT scanner, which is available in either 64 or 128 slice configurations. The FCT Embrace can be used for radiology, as well as in oncology applications, thanks to its built-in radiotherapy planning features.

The system has an impressive 85 cm bore, allowing for large patients and instruments to be placed inside. The wide patient bed can hold up to 660 pounds of weight.

For radiotherapy, the device’s bore matches the rotational arc of a linear accelerator, which makes for easier treatment planning and accurate positioning of the patient. FUJIFILM says this allows patients to be scanned in the same position as their treatment without losing any image quality. This can lead to improved therapy and potentially better outcomes for patients.

The FCT Embrace, which includes technology adopted from Analogic, is being unveiled this week at the 2018 American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) Annual Meeting in San Antonio, Texas.
