Spring Smart Walker Designed from Scratch

Foray Design has listened to people with mobility problems and designed, from scratch, a smart walker called Spring.

Spring is a smart rolling walker that is functional, so individuals can easily stand tall and sit whenever and wherever they need. The walker helps with posture, and since the center of gravity is between the front and rear wheels, individuals can stand closer to people or stand near their kitchen counter to perform tasks.

The walker has also been designed for people with limitations of hand grip, wrist rotation, and upper arm strength. The continuous handle grip allows users to find their most fitting hand position.

Spring also comes with an accessible seat. The parking brake is automatically activated once the seat is opened. The parking brake can also be activated by hand without opening the seat if the individual simply wants to lean on the walker without sitting on it.

One simple motion opens, adjusts the height, folds, and locks the device. This patented technology is what drives the core of the Spring design. By pressing the two blue buttons that are easy to find on the walker, an individual can slide the handlebar up or down, open and close the walker with the spring collapse, or fold the walker in so it doesn’t take up space in a small setting.

If an individual has to take their hands off the device, the reverse brake reduces rollaway risk and Spring automatically stops. So, people can wave to their friend or grab an item from their cupboard without the walker rolling away on its own.Additionally, the shock absorbers in the walker increase stability and reduce vibrations in a user’s hands. Spring’s technology makes it so people can walk across grass or gravel without feeling every bump and dip. The four wheels hug the ground, so Spring is less likely to tip over or slide. All mechanisms are internal, so there are no extra gizmos and gadgets for user’s to get tripped up on.

Lastly, there’s a zipper pocket on the underside of the seat to hold a person’s wallet, phone, or key ring. Foray Design is currently developing a shopping cart insert that could replace the seat for instances such as running errands at the grocery store.

“Smart engineering isn’t just about technical execution, it’s about understanding how you live, move, and enjoy the world. Rather than taking our cues from an outdated industry, we started from scratch,” said the creators, according to their Indiegogo site. “The result is a beautiful tool, intelligently refined to keep you moving.”
