MAMA NATALIE BIRTHING SIMULATOR BY LAERDAL GLOBAL HEALTH

Convenient low cost answer to birth asphyxia issue

Despite being one of the most natural events a woman undergoes during her life, birthing, especially in developing countries, is sadly linked to haunting figures. Every single day, 3 000 newborn babies don’t survive birth asphyxia together with 1 000 mothers.

Listed in two millennium goals, avoiding such dramatic issue is now a top priority for the decades to come. Willing to contribute to that improvement, Laerdal global health has elaborated the Mama Natalie learning kits, placing education at the very centre of the problem solving, for a reasonable price. The Natalie collection consists of three educational devices: the neonatalie suction (soft silicone device made to access securely baby nostrils), newborn simulator (realistic model of a baby’s body to practice handling) and birthing simulator (realistic yet culturally unoffending copy of a woman’s womb).

Laerdal global health was awarded the 2013 INDEX award for the Natalie collection and generously decided to donate the award prize to the international confederation of midwives (ICM).
