A solution to painful vaccinations

Intercell has designed the needle-free future of vaccine delivery. An attractive alternate route to immunization is now possible with the two major platforms of Transcutaneous immunization (TCI) advanced by Intercell: the needle-free vaccine delivery patch (VDP) and the vaccine enhancement patch (VEP). The difference between the two being that the VDP contains an antigen with or without an adjuvant that is administered on the skin while the VEP contains only the adjuvant and is used in combination with an injected vaccine. Basic principles of TCI have been acknowledged in previous studies, so let’s focus on the two significant advances made by Intercell. First, technical innovation can be found in formulating and stabilizing vaccines in a dry patch format, while the second discovery is their nonwoven (patch) disc matrix-supported drying technology (allowing efficient drying of the patch formulation blend to produce dry stable dosage forms of VDP or VEP). Particularly convenient and having a strong impact on the reduction of cost, Intercell’s needle-free vaccine is shaping a different future for its market, opening the door to new perspectives.
