CONSUME LESS, SAVE MORE: HOSPITALS EMBRACE ECO-FRIENDLY STRATEGIES

New Generation Equipment and Practices Help Hospitals Save Electricity and Money

In our most recent quarterly e-magazine we took a look at how healthcare providers are reducing costs and energy consumption by embracing a new generation of equipment, systems and building design. In order to manage tight budgets and also act in a more ecology-friendly way hospitals and other care facilities are making significant gains by employing energy-efficient machines and practices. In terms of lighting, making the switch to longer-lasting, energy efficient LED lamps can save money, but the greater input costs can be off-putting for some.

New generation devices such as the Magnetom Amira from Siemens achieve substantial reductions in energy consumption by automatically switching to a standby mode when not in use. The machine is the first MRI scanner from Siemens to be equipped with its Eco-Power technology, “which monitors and controls the state of the helium that is responsible for cooling the magnet. This means that a power saving of up to 30% can be achieved in standby mode compared to when the feature is not activated.” New-era exercise bikes and stepping machines are also aiding the move towards energy-conservation. High-quality exercise equipment from Matrix are entirely self-powered and cord-free, providing cost-savings and freedom of placement within the facility.
