L’OREAL PARTNERS WITH INNOVATIVE BIOTECH FIRM

French Conglomerate Has Joined with Organovo to Develop Bioprinted Human Skin for Product Testing

French conglomerate L’Oreal has recently announced that its American subsidiary L’Oreal USA has a signed a partnership with 3D bioprinting firm Organovo Holdings, Inc. The collaboration will draw on L’Oreal’s experience in beauty product development and Organovo’s proprietary NovoGen Bioprinting Platform to grow bioprinted skin for product testing. This deal is a first of kind in the industry and could smooth the way for animal-free testing in a variety of other industries, and launch bioprinting on a truly commercial scale. The stage is now set for other beauty and pharma companies to follow suite and create industry partnerships with leading bioprinting companies. Ultimately, the partnership could represent the beginning of the end for animal testing. It could also give the bioprinting industry a vital boost and hopefully speed up the development of bioprint products that could be used for skin grafts and organ transplants.
