BANDAGE SYSTEM TO SENSE HOW YOU FEEL
Tawainese Project to Integrate Sensors into Patient’s Bandages
A diverse team of nurses, engineers and computer scientists at the National Taiwan University in Taipei are working on a project called Bioscope to develop an intelligent bandage system. The innovative system will be able to monitor a patient’s temperature, heart rate, movement and sound patterns of their internal organs.
The Bioscope uses a 3D-printed housing that allows nursing staff to interchange sensors when required. Various measuring devices are employed to record patient vitals, such as a contact thermometer for body temperature and an accelerometer for physical movement. The system is due to be presented at the UbiComp 2014, which will take place this September in Seattle.
