FDA CLEARS THE SENSUS FOR OTC USE

Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulator From NeuroMetrix Now Available Without a Prescription

The SENSUS Pain Management System can now be purchased over the counter (without a prescription) as it recently secured FDA approval. The device is manufactured by NeuroMetrix and offers pain relief to people suffering from peripheral neuropathy pain. Previously it was prescribed to diabetics and others suffering from chronic pain in the legs and feet.

Similar to other transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulators,TENS, the SENSUS uses an electrical current to stimulate the nerves for therapeutic purposes. It is worn around the leg and is generally attached just below the knee. It can be set for continuous use throughout the day, with one hour intervals and is the only TENS device that is approved by the FDA for use during sleep.

It holds several other advantages over traditional TENS devices, such as one-button control for ease of use, preconfigured electrode for accurate placement and fluid patient mobility, and higher stimulation voltage to overcome nerve damage. The SENSUS is a drug-free, non-addictive and fast acting device that provides on demand pain relief to chronic pain sufferers.
