Teenage inventor creates a smartphone stethoscope

In recent years, we have witnessed the explosion in smartphone-related devices. One of the newest additions is the Steth IO – a smartphone powered Stethoscope. The Steth IO, is the brainchild of 15 years old Suman Mulumudi who recently established his new company, Strato Scientific, just outside of Seattle, USA. Due to his father’s work as a cardiologist, Suman, was already very familiar with stethoscopes and their uses. Seeing an advantage in building something around the great audio qualities of a smartphone. The teenage inventor created a diaphragm – that fits like a phone case – to channel sound to the phone’s microphone. These magnified sounds can then be stored, viewed or transmitted via the smartphone. The diaphragm device holds many advantages: it’s easy to use, relatively low-cost and has universal applicability.
