ASEP HEALTHCARE’S TOURNISTRIP PREVENTS CROSS-INFECTION

Disposable Single-Use Tourniquet From ASep Healthcare, Now On Sale in Europe

The Tournistrip by ASep Healthcare is a disposable single-use tourniquet now available in Europe through Medline International B.V. in the Netherlands. Developed by Christian Fellowes and Ryan Kerstein, the Tournistrip’s design offers unique benefits in terms of infection control, ease of use and comfort, as compared to reusable tourniquets. Upon publishing their work investigating the bacterial content of tourniquets with the Chelsea & Westminster Microbiology Department, the doctors realized the clinical need for a fit-for-purpose single use tourniquet. The long strip of plasticized paper is designed to allow the drawing of blood with minimum risk of infection. Tournistrip is also the only single use tourniquet approved by the ANTT, the Antiseptic No Touch Technique organization, whose mission is to protect people from infections associated with healthcare. According to Dr. Alison Holmes, the director of infection control at Hammersmith Hospital, tourniquets are a vehicle for cross infection from person to person, which makes the Tournistrip’s simple technology so important.
