Massive exporting success for Medical Incinerator manufacturer

Addfield Environmental Systems celebrates record year of international trade

A Midlands based manufacturer of Incinerators has just wrapped up another year of increasing international success with their biggest export deal to date.

Addfield Environmental Systems Ltd based in Burntwood, Staffordshire are completing a highly successful twelve months supplying Medical Waste Incinerators across numerous developing countries. Supplying a number of World Health Organisations and Government Bodies across Senegal, Cambodia, Nigeria, Guinea, Mexico etc. Addfield have just completed a deal to supply Pakistan with 13 State of the art MP500 Medical Waste Incinerators complete with advanced Wet Scrubbing technology to ensure complete destruction of harmful waste while massively reducing any negative environmental impact that this type of waste brings.

The company has been recognised by local government for its quality of equipment and compliance for international emission standards.

This order is the latest export success for the company, which has worked with the Department for International Trade (DIT) Staffordshire team for the past 5 years as it launched a strategic plan to increase its overseas contracts.

Set for delivery and commissioning in early 2018 these machines will make a dramatic impact on the sustainable quality of life across Pakistan where they are being installed. Addfield have already witnessed first-hand the continued improvements following other similar installations where waste had previously been inappropriately discarded back into the local environment.

Delivering more than just machines, installations such as these provide opportunities for the local communities, bringing jobs and reducing the strains on the medical systems through rapid and regular removal of waste. With hospitals across Pakistan creating approximately 250,000 tonnes of waste every year access to secure waste management systems is essential to protect the health of its residents. Historically medical waste has been handled poorly, which has led to environmental and health consequences in and around the hospitals. This is not an uncommon situation in rapidly developing countries where the infrastructure is struggling to keep up against the growing demands put upon it from relentless population growth.

James Grant, of Addfield Environmental Systems, said the latest deal has provided a huge boost to the expanding company, after it won following extensive collaboration with the customer to ensure the right solutions are in pace for long term benefits.

He said:

“In the light of the growing visibility of the risks posed by inadequate destruction of Medical and Biological waste highlighted by recent viral outbreaks such as Ebola in 2016, a number of countries and agencies have prioritised their bio security measures surrounding waste generated at clinics, pharmacies and hospitals and our equipment is proving to be in increasing demand. Containment of clinical waste is not limited to just one virus and needle waste from immunisation programs can aid the spread of pathogens that are directly responsible for the transmission of blood-borne diseases, such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV.

“If the needles are not disposed of in a socially responsible and environmentally friendly manner it can cause a potentially devastating health care risk. We are thrilled that our equipment is recognised by Government Agencies in Pakistan.”

The company’s export business has soared over the past three years, from less than 30% to just over two-thirds now, exporting to 95 countries. This is projected to grow by as much as 50% in the next two years.

Added James:

“DIT’s advice and support has been a crucial part of our overseas growth. We continue to grow our national business, but exports allow us to explore more market opportunities, diversification of products and service whilst making us a more resilient company to market changes.”

Alethea Warburton, international trade adviser for DIT Staffordshire, who has worked closely with Addfield Environmental advising the company on its export strategy, said:

“The company excels in its field and is demonstrating that it can operate on a truly global scale, despite being a small firm on one site. It’s gratifying to see how quickly it has grown its export markets in such a short space of time and I’m pleased that it has taken advantage of our support and expertise to facilitate it.”

The order which is now one of the largest placed in Addfields’ many years of developing and manufacturing the most reliable machines on the market represents a true shift in the dynamics for Addfield. Having built their reputation on quality it is genuinely satisfying to be placed into such a position of trust following the successful growth in exporting, which has taken place throughout the past few years.

Addfields success comes as the Department for International Trade continues its Exporting is GREAT campaign, which aims to inspire and support 100,000 additional UK exporters to sell their goods and services overseas by 2020. Launched in November 2015, the Exporting is GREAT partners with major UK businesses, to support companies at every stage of their exporting journey – from identifying opportunities to winning contracts overseas.
