Photodynamic therapy (PDT)
What is Photodynamic Therapy (PDT)?
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a treatment methodology that utilizes light-sensitive medication in conjunction with a light source to eliminate abnormal cells. This approach is effective in treating various skin and eye disorders, as well as certain cancers. Both the medication and the light source, when used independently, pose no harm. However, when the medication is exposed to the light, it becomes activated, triggering a reaction that harms adjacent cells. Consequently, PDT enables the treatment of small, abnormal tissue areas without the necessity of surgery.
