Photodynamic therapy (PDT)
Two processes of photodynamic therapy (PDT)
PDT can be categorized into conventional PDT using lamp/laser light and daylight PDT using natural sunlight. Conventional PDT has two stages: preparation (receiving light-sensitive medication at a hospital/clinic, which may be a cream, injection, or drink, and waiting for it to accumulate in abnormal cells) and light treatment (using a lamp/laser for 10-45 minutes, or an endoscope for internal treatments, possibly with anesthesia). Daylight PDT treats skin conditions with a cream applied at a hospital/clinic or home, followed by two hours in sunlight (with sunscreen). PDT is a versatile treatment tailored to individual patient needs.
