Belintra expands its range with its own development!

Expanding range of investment goods for the healthcare sector with a new innovative and sustainable scanning solution. OptiScanBan®

Semmerzake (BE), September 11, 2020 - Today Belintra announces that it is expanding its range of investment goods for the healthcare sector with a new innovative and sustainable scanning solution. OptiScanBan® is a self-developed solution for efficiently organizing the storage space for soft goods within a Kanban-FIFO approach.

The OptiScanBan® concept increases the efficiency of resupplying goods and consists of two components.

It starts with the new OptiScanBan® label holders on which the status of the goods is changed from “available (green)” to “refill (red)” with a simple flip operation, which saves a lot of time compared to manual removal and turning of tickets in existing concepts. The label holders can be used universally, because they are compatible with all common baskets and modules on which they click firmly. They are provided with a label with a 2D barcode that allows for manual scanning or even further automation.

Joël de Wit, Operational Director of the CHIREC group hospitals in Brussels and Braine l'Alleud, who was involved in the development of this new approach, testifies: “We have considerably fewer error messages due to labels that fall or are not being turned around correctly and the logistics department and end users are very satisfied. Currently we use them for operating room stocks, but depending on the budget we want to systematically equip the hospital with this label holder."

The automated scanning is made possible with the installation of one or more cameras per storage space, the OptiScanBan® software and a server to process the captured data. The cameras read the status of the OptiScanBan® label holders and are connected to the network via a POE (Power Over Ethernet) connection. The OptiScanBan® software analyses the snapshots that the cameras take and recognizes the status of each article (the red and the green) and registers the latest status in the database after a successful scan. Through a link with Excel or the ERP system, the stock manager can provide the necessary instructions to ensure rapid restocking.

“This development of our R&D team offers our customers a highly flexible web-based solution that eliminates the need for manual scanning. The automated OptiScanBan® can offer an identical service level with fewer deliveries, which saves time and costs. In addition, the investment per storage space is significantly lower than, for example, with RFID technology and the payback time is guaranteed to be less than 2 years,” says Geert Schepens, VP Business Development.

After an initial presentation with a few customers, there is already plenty of interest in this new technology. Dirk Deruytere, VP Sales & Marketing, explains further: “This new scanning technology is a fully-fledged addition to the already existing Belintra range. Belintra has always invested in innovative and safe healthcare solutions, proving that in addition to innovation in existing product lines such as mobile IT, it is also open to other concepts that add value to efficiency for its customers. ”
