Preparation

In order to make a successful scan, we need to do some preparation first.

1.To take a clear picture, we need to check the tip of the INO100 scanner. The mirror of the scanner tip may collect water spots, this will negatively affect the captured scan data. If the scanning tip has water spots, you can wipe it with alcohol.

2.Also, we should avoid strong external light source. It can create bright reflections on the surface of the teeth, which can result in unwanted noise.

3.Check the situation of the mouth. We need to remove any sitting saliva or blood on the teeth before scanning. It is recommended to completely dry off the accumulated saliva on the tooth surface. Saliva can cause reflections of the scanner light, which may result in poor scan data quality.

4.We should do the calibration before our first use. It can help make sure the high quality of the scan results.

5.INO00 has the AI. Optimize function, which can reduce the interference of lips and tongue when scanning. In order to gain high quality of scan data, we should turn on this mode before start the scan.

Scan Techniques

Besides, there are some scan techniques that can help obtain perfect scans with BLZ Dental intraoral scanner INO100.

1.Before beginning the scanning process, we must place the scanner on the occlusal surface area. If the scanner is activated outside of the patient’s mouth, it will scan unnecessary data as it enters the patient’s mouth. As a result, the software may generate unwanted noise.

2.Start scanning from the occlusal surface area and continue to the buccal or lingual surface. During the scanning, we must scan the anterior units in an S-shape motion around the incisal edges. The S-shape scan technique can help capture the incisal edge, labial surface, and lingual surface in a fluent motion.

3.After scanning the occlusal surface area, we should rotate the scanner to scan the buccal or lingual side. Also, we should scan in S-shape motion, in order to scan areas such as the interproximal surfaces.

4.Once you have completed the maxillary and mandibular full arch scans, you will need to capture the occlusion scan. To get accurate occlusion scan data, the scanner tip should be placed on the buccal side of the patient’s posterior molar. We recommend the users to move the scanner up and down in a vertical motion and scan 6 to 8 teeth evenly for both sides when capturing the bite. Also, scanning the occlusion with the patient sitting upright can guarantee better data compared to scanning with the patient lying down.

To sum up, capturing a digital dental impression is not difficult, but does take a bit of practice. After proper practice, you can sure scan very well. We recommend you to practice with INO100 by scanning a model first and then scan your own teeth, then your partner or colleague. And last, do it for a real patient. The key for practice is scanning slowly and try to scan fully without big data lost. Then, you can speed up gradually when you become skillful in operating it!
