degree° - the next generation fever thermometer

The technology startup, cosinuss° (www.cosinuss.com), based in Munich introduces its newest product, degree°: The next generation thermometer that takes the temperature continuously in the ear and warns parents when temperature gets too high or rises too fast.

One day our three year old daughter suffered from a viral infect causing high fever that suddenly led to a febrile seizure. Although Greta sat at her daughter´s bed taking the temperature every hour she couldn´t see the seizure coming. Because the trigger for a febrile seizure is not a high temperature but the fast rise of it. This incident didn´t let Greta and her husband Johannes any rest anymore.

“This experience and the fact that approx. 30% of the children who already suffered from a febrile seizure will suffer from another one made us to think about a solution. After all, we are already managing a company with core competence in mobile monitoring of vital signs! Parents should be enabled to see the whole temperature curve of their child during fever in order to be able to manage fever more relaxed and without stress.” - Greta Kreuzer

Thereupon, Johannes, who is a PhD medical engineer and his team took the measuring technology that was already in the company and improved and adapted it for children. „After improving the already field-tested devices the challenge we had to master was to adapt the ergonomical design to children. We wanted to design a thermometer that children can wear during the day and also in the night.“ - Johannes Kreuzer
