The right light for the dental clinic

The design of the dental clinic must include the use of lamps that ensure maximum visual comfort, perfect color rendering and significant energy savings.

ECLAIRE lamps are designed to ensure optimal working conditions as required by the UNI EN 12464-1 standard, which defines the lighting requirements for indoor workplaces.

This standard analyzes the visual tasks, highlights the requirements for visual comfort and indicates the lighting requirements also for dental practices. Therefore, the lamps for these specific environments must have the following characteristics

– Luminous intensity (LUX), i.e. the amount of light that reaches a surface. The patient needs a very high illuminance, equal to 1000 lux, while in the surrounding environment, to minimize visual fatigue, the lamp must ensure at least a value of 500 lux.

– Color temperature (K), i.e. the hue of light, very similar to midday sunlight. At noon on a clear day the value is about 5500K, ideal for the most faithful color choice, the standard requires from a minimum of 5000K up to a maximum of 6000K.

– Color rendering index (CRI) greater than 90. Color rendering is the value that defines the ability of the light source to make the colors of the objects it illuminates appear natural.

– The glare index (UGR) must be 19, according to the standard. We try to contain glare as much as possible through the use of direct and indirect light lamps and using screens made with materials that spread the light as much as possible.

Finally, the UNI EN 12464-1 standard also indicates the parameters necessary in the other areas of the clinic, such as the rooms for visits (300 lux), the waiting room (200 lux), the offices (300-500 lux) .
