WATER RETENTION

HOW PRESSOTHERAPY IS USEFUL TO FIGHT WATER RETENTION

WATER RETENTION

Very often leg swelling is caused by water retention, that is, the body's tendency to retain liquids. Water retention manifests itself in the form of swelling, called edema, in particular areas of the body: it generally occurs on the legs and ankles but, in more extensive cases, it can appear in areas where fat accumulates, such as the abdomen, buttocks and thighs.

Edema is an accumulation of fluids, localized in the adipose system, which causes abnormal swelling and can lead to chronic inflammation. Edema can cause heavy, painful legs and weight gain.

Swollen legs can be caused by many factors and the main one is:

Poor circulation: the blood from the lower limbs is transported by the veins to the heart, counteracting the force of gravity. In cases of poor circulation, blood stagnates in the veins and generates pressure on the external walls. The veins, therefore, can become visible and painful: they are called varicose veins. In some cases, capillaries that cannot withstand the pressure break and create small spots of blood under the skin.

Clearly, in order to deal with the problem it is easy to understand that drainage of the liquids is necessary to allow their evacuation. The action must be compressive and start from the foot and gradually towards the base (groin) of the limb itself. One of the most effective methods is undoubtedly sequential pressotherapy as long as it is done with truly sequential devices whose operating cycle starts from the periphery of the limb (foot) and gradually follows the natural direction of the fluids: all the sectors must compress one after the other. the other, keeping the previous ones under pressure until the last one (groin) is inflated. At this point, all sectors are deflated and the cycle is then restarted.
