Laboratory Refrigerators

Froilabo’s range of Laboratory Refrigerators are available in a range of sizes and specifications.

What is a refrigerated chamber?

Temperature management is a critical part of the layout of any laboratory. It is a factor that must be rigorously managed in order to keep science-based activity free of errors. Therefore, laboratory refrigerators are designed to maintain the temperature of sensitive chemical compounds and biological samples.

A refrigerated chamber consists of a thermally insulated compartment and a heat pump (mechanical, electronic or chemical) that transfers heat from its inside to its external environment so that it is cooled to a temperature below the room temperature.

Laboratory fridges come in a range of sizes and specifications, but their purpose remains the same – to ensure items are stored at the right temperature. They are different to the domestic fridges found in homes and restaurants as they maintain a very specific temperature range consistently and without fail. They also need to be completely hygienic and reliable and standard fridges are simply not powerful or accurate enough to achieve the desired temperature range of a laboratory refrigerator.

Laboratory refrigerators typically operate from 2°C to 10°C, although there are exceptions. It is best to use a refrigerator that closely meets temperature needs because the lower the temperature the more power it requires.
