PERU: OXYGEN GENERATOR IN THE TARAPOTO HOSPITAL STARTS WORK

OXYGEN GENERATOR HELPS IN THE TREATMENT OF CORONA PATIENTS

A new medical oxygen production facility that was recently delivered to Tarapoto by military aircraft on behalf of the Peruvian Social Health Insurance (EsSalud) has now reached the hospital. The generator has already been put into operation and is now supplying the patients in the II-2 Tarapoto hospital with the urgently needed oxygen.

Jorge Perlacios, spokesman for the Social Health Insurance (EsSalud), told local media that the hospital now has 24m3 of oxygen per hour. This enables the continuous supply of 57 beds. He pointed out that the generator will be crucial to the fight against coronavirus (covid-19) in the region.

"Tarapoto is one of the cities most severely affected by the disease, as Iquitos was at the time. That is why we took this measure. So far, social health insurance has supported the daily supply of 100 oxygen cylinders. We are sure that our actions will lead to better results with this new system," said Perlacios.

Currently the hospital in Tarapoto has increased its offer to 125 beds for general hospital stays and 7 beds for the intensive care unit. The normal oxygen consumption before the pandemic was 20 to 30 bottles per day, currently a quantity of around 140 bottles is needed. The Inmatec POC 8400 oxygen generator will now supply the oxygen and has already been put into operation by the hospital.
