17 Joëlette at the Grand Raid
On Sunday 24 October, the Run Handi Move association enabled 17 people with disabilities to take part in the Grand Raid de la Réunion.
Every year since 2007, the association has taken part in this event with Joëlettes, to make the paths of Reunion Island accessible to people with disabilities or reduced mobility.
This year, seventeen Joëlettes were pushed and pulled by the group's forty-one runners. After 96 kilometres of running, including five positive altitude changes, and four days of running, the whole team arrived at La Redoute on Sunday afternoon.
The passengers of the Joëlette encouraged their carriers until the end, in solidarity and mutual aid:"The people being carried are the engine of the joëlette. They are the ones who give the tone, the energy, the strength when the going gets rough. In the end, they are the ones who carry us."
