{FIME} A Wristband to Stop Nausea

Last April, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved WAT Medical‘s leading product to treat nausea-induced vomiting: the EmeTerm.

Being medication-free, this wristband doesn’t have any of the typical drug side effects like dizziness, drowsiness or thickening of lung secretions, for example.

Presented at FIME 2018, the EmeTerm is based purely on clinically proven neuro modulation technology: it sends an electric current to the nerve system via the P6 acupuncture point on the underside of the wrist; and the electric pulses are then delivered to the brain to precisely block the signal to the stomach which would induce nausea and vomiting.

The EmeTerm can be used in a wide range of treatments including all types of motion sickness caused for example by travelling, pregnancy sickness or chemotherapy treatments. The device has five levels of intensity and a patented electrode design that enhances the transfer of electric pulses from the device to skin.

The wristband is completely dust-proof and water-resistant, and its band is made of hypo-allergenic material. The EmeTerm features magnetic charging lasting up to nine hours. No conduct gel is needed. Designed in Canada and assembled in China, it won the 2017 iF Design Award for its innovative design and usability and is currently used by consumers in over 20 countries worldwide.
