Modern Ultra Pure Water Technology for Practice-Oriented Science Education
membraPure supports the German Association for Vocational Support and Training (VBFA) e. V.
The German Association for Vocational Support and Training (VBFA) e. V. has been committed to the vocational qualification of young people in Saxony for many years. Through its training centres and schools, the association offers a range of educational pathways that support both entry into professional life and personal development.
A particular focus is placed on training future environmental technology specialists. In the fields of wastewater management, water supply, and circular economy and waste management, trainees acquire the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required for the responsible use of natural resources.
To further strengthen practice-oriented education in these areas, the training laboratory was equipped with a modern ultrapure water system in cooperation with membraPure.
An understanding of water quality plays a central role, particularly in scientific and environmental professions. These professions are an essential part of critical infrastructure and involve responsible tasks throughout the water cycle. For this reason, the VBFA combines theoretical principles with practical and experimental work.
During chemical and physical experiments, trainees learn how to identify and quantify substances using wet-chemical and instrumental analysis methods. Reliable water quality is an essential requirement for this work. Even minor impurities can affect blank values, chemical reactions and measurement results, thereby reducing the validity of an analysis.
Ultrapure water is used for various purposes, including the preparation of solutions, reagents and standards, the dilution of samples, and the final rinsing of laboratory glassware. With the new system, trainees now have direct access to the required water quality in the training laboratory.
This allows analytical workflows to be taught under realistic conditions. At the same time, the influence of water quality on experiments and analytical results can be demonstrated clearly. Trainees also learn how to operate a technology that is standard in modern laboratories working in environmental analysis, research and industry.
The VBFA’s vocational preparation programme also benefits from the expanded laboratory equipment. During the vocational preparation year, young people gain insights into different occupational fields, explore potential career paths or work towards obtaining their lower secondary school qualification. In the field of chemistry, physics and biology, the focus is on experiments and practical exercises. By examining properties such as solubility, density and electrical conductivity, participants learn how scientific findings are obtained and understand their importance for everyday life, technology and the environment.
Together with the VBFA, we implemented a solution that meets both the technical requirements of the training programme and the available financial framework. In doing so, we are helping to create modern learning conditions and provide young people with practice-oriented access to contemporary laboratory analysis.
