Results of the Harex-ICS 2024 clinical study
Researchers from the Functional Urology Service of the Fundació Puigvert have demonstrated through a clinical study the efficacy of the Harex® penile clamp to control urinary incontinence in patients who have undergone prostate surgery. Their work, published in various media, has been presented at the annual meeting of the International Continence Society (ICS) held in Madrid (Spain) from 23 to 25 October 2024.
“This research has shown that the Harex® penile clamp is an effective device for the conservative treatment of urinary incontinence after prostate surgery,” according to Principal Investigator and Head of the Functional Urology Unit of the Fundació Puigvert Dr. Carlos Errando Semet. “Urinary incontinence is a recognized complication after prostate surgery, which significantly affects the quality of life of patients and the penile clamp can be considered a valid alternative to avoid and/or reduce the use of absorbents.”
The study developed by Dr. Carlos Errando's team began in November 2021 and ended in February 2023 with the participation of 26 patients with an average age of 68.7 years. The duration of the study with each patient was 4 weeks and was carried out with Harex version 3, yielding results in which 73% of the patients showed total satisfaction with the use of Harex and a 40% reduction in the use of diapers in the 8 weeks of Harex use.
Since mid 2023, version 4 of Harex is being marketed, which includes the improvements obtained from the comments of hundreds of patients and where the level of satisfaction has risen to around 94%.
