NCC Medical Joins Clinical-Engineering Collaboration to Advance Intelligent IONM

NCC Medical collaborates with clinical and research teams to advance intelligent IONM workflows, integrated neuro-monitoring, and remote expert support.

On September 20, 2026, Shanghai Sixth People's Hospital launched a three-year research initiative on intelligent electromyographic signal decoding and integrated neuro-monitoring. NCC Medical is participating as an industry collaboration partner alongside clinical and research teams.

It brings clinical practice, engineering, and daily monitoring work into the same conversation: How can IONM teams receive clearer and more structured neurophysiological information during complex procedures?

Clinical experience under real surgical pressure
In China, NCC's electrophysiology monitoring team works alongside clinical teams in complex surgical settings. Signal quality, monitoring plans, and documentation must perform under real surgical pressure.

Over time, this work has made several recurring technologist challenges clear: preparing a case efficiently before surgery, keeping setup steps consistent, and completing post-case documentation without adding unnecessary workload.

These observations are fed back into NCC's research and development work. Through ongoing product development informed by real clinical practice, NCC has reduced preoperative preparation to approximately five minutes and enabled rapid generation of post-operative reports.

The purpose is practical. When routine preparation and documentation take less time, technologists can focus more attention on signal quality, changing intraoperative conditions, and communication with the surgical team.

2000+ clinical monitoring Cases in 6 months
IONM decisions are made in a changing surgical environment. Signal quality, the monitoring plan, documentation, and communication with the surgical team must all work together.

This work is grounded in a high-volume clinical setting. At the Orthopedic Electrophysiology Center of Shanghai Sixth People's Hospital, more than 2,000 clinical monitoring cases were completed from April to September 2026, with all requested surgical monitoring cases completed during that period. The center also demonstrated remote central monitoring across settings ranging from rooms within one building to hospitals in different cities.

For NCC, these are not simply numbers or a technology demonstration. They point to the day-to-day questions that matter when an IONM solution is used in practice: How to maintain workflow consistency, how to make clinical information available when it is needed, and how to support teams as their experience grows.

NeuGuard: connecting the operating room to a monitoring center
NCC NeuGuard supports a central monitoring model in which experienced professionals can view and support multiple surgeries from one monitoring center.

In this model, on-site electrophysiology technologists focus on electrode placement and real-time monitoring in the operating room. At the same time, experienced personnel at the center can oversee multiple active cases through the display system and provide remote support when an on-site team needs additional input.

This approach can increase the number of surgeries that can be monitored at the same time, while giving on-site teams access to experienced support during live procedures. It is designed to expand monitoring capacity without separating clinical expertise from the operating room.

Future IONM with NCC

IONM capability grows through repeated use, review, and learning. NCC Medical is applying this clinical experience to build connected monitoring models that can help more orthopedic procedures access intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring.

NCC Medical is also planning electrophysiology monitoring centers in markets including Singapore. These centers are intended to connect local operating rooms with experienced monitoring support, helping clinical teams expand IONM access while maintaining real-time collaboration during surgery.
