Dr. Hansraj states in his preamble, “Billions of people are using cell phone devices on the planet, essentially in poor posture. The purpose of this study is to assess the forces incrementally seen by the cervical spine as the head is tilted forward, into worsening posture.”
Dr. Hansraj is an M.D. specializing in spine surgery and rehab in Poughkeepsie, New York. It is important to note that that his phrase, “Loss of the natural curve of the cervical spine” is medically synonymous to the “reduced cervical lordosis/extension” found in the iTrac’s Indications for Use statement, copied here directly from the FDA document: “The iTrac c2i cervical traction system is intended for use as a conservative treatment alternative in patients presenting with cervicogenic pain symptoms of mechanical origin related to reduced cervical lordosis/extension and altered posture. It temporarily positions the cervical spine into an extension posture of varying degrees, as determined by a clinician. This device is for prescription use only and is not provided in a sterile condition.”
Dr. Hansraj also clearly defines the adverse effects of loss of healthy cervical curvature. “Loss of the natural curve of the cervical spine leads to incrementally increased stresses about the cervical spine. These stresses may lead to early wear, tear, degeneration, and possibly surgeries.”
To our knowledge, the iTrac is the only computerized device available that has been cleared by the FDA and is intended specifically to correct this “loss of natural curve of the cervical spine”/”reduced cervical lordosis/extension”.
