FIRST LOOK: Reach Out Centre For Kids

The Reach Out Centre for Kids (ROCK) is one of the largest and most vital mental health facilities in the Halton region of Ontario, Canada.

Originally built in 1992, ROCK started out serving 400 children per year, but in the last 10 years has seen a drastic rise in demand and now serves over 15,000 children, youth, and families. ROCK focuses on the link between the natural development of children and the close relationships they share with the living; that children can best create meaning and make sense of their world through connections with their natural environment. The design includes a heavily treed landscape concept and openness throughout the facility that brings the outside world inside, to help alleviate symptoms of depression and anxiety for children and parents. The new 25,000-square-foot project is designed by Bortolotto Architecture and Design and is expected to be completed in December 2020.
