The Colgate Plaqless Pro smart electric toothbrush uses optic sensor technology to detect biofilm buildup in the mouth and advise its users on how best to remove it in real time while they are brushing their teeth, providing personalized care.
First, the Plaqless Pro lets users see when they need to brush longer in one area of their mouth or when all of the biofilm buildup has been removed. Using a light ring around the toothbrush, users will see a blue light when buildup has been found. A white light then tells users it’s time to move on.
Second, the Colgate Connect App pairs with the brush via Bluetooth to give users a precise, personalized brushing experience, Colgate says. The sensors in the toothbrush handle create a comprehensive map of the user’s mouth.
Each time they brush, users can consult the app to see where they brushed, where they missed, and if their mouth is truly clean. The app also provides instant brushing feedback, personalized data, coaching, and oral care tips.
“We’re excited to introduce this breakthrough technology with sensors that can see through foamy toothpaste to provide information that helps people take stronger ownership of their oral health,” said Patricia Verduin, chief technology officer at Colgate-Palmolive.
“Our new Plaqless Pro delivers the superior cleaning of a powered toothbrush, the proven location tracking of advanced oral care devices, and now the detection of an oral scanner that enables personal brushing feedback in real time for a remarkable clean,” said Verduin.
The Plaqless Pro also won Best of Innovation for Health and Beauty at the 2020 International Consumer Electronics Show. It will be available in 2020.
