Swiss hospital to use Sectra’s digital pathology solution

Geneva University Hospital in Switzerland has signed contract to use Sectra’s digital pathology solution for full-scale primary diagnostics.

The Swiss hospital, which is claimed to be the largest university hospital in the country, handles about 35,000 pathology examinations per year.

Sectra’s digital solution, which is part of the company’s enterprise imaging offering, supports pathologists in making key decision points like grading and carrying out more precise measurements.

It provides a unified strategy for all imaging requirements, and enhnaces patient outcomes while decreasing operational costs.

By allowing image analysis, the solution results in decreased variation and enhanced precision of tasks such as cell counting.

Sectra said digital access also enables second opinions, external reading resources, and specialist consultations.

Geneva University Hospital will integrate the solution with its laboratory information system, offering pathologists a complete overview of the patient history in one application.

The integration also allows workflow orchestration to drive the reporting workflow according to sub-specialties, rules, and priorities.

The vendor-neutral approach of the solution is allowing the Swiss hospital to select the scanner vendor of their choice.

Earlier this year, Dutch hospital Zuyderland MC has expanded its use of Sectra’s medical imaging solution to include digital pathology. Sectra’s digital pathology solution will be integrated with Zuyderland’s laboratory information system.
