GE Healthcare launches new cybersecurity service for hospitals

GE Healthcare has launched a new cybersecurity service that combines medical device expertise, artificial intelligence and process management tools to aid hospitals to tackle cybersecurity threats.

Called as Skeye, the new solution is expected to boost hospitals’ existing resources and capabilities by offering proactive monitoring through a remote security operations center (SOC). This helps hospitals to detect, analyze and respond to cybersecurity threats in real time.

Given that more devices are becoming connected, cybersecurity risk is also increasing.

Skeye will not only help to identify risks and vulnerabilities, but also recommend action plans, offer remediation advice and execution strategies, and facilitate collaboration across customers’ clinical engineering, IT and security teams.

Furthermore, AI tools will help to automate connected device inventory and equipment risk profiling across a hospital. This helps to create a dynamic management system for device onboarding and decommissioning.

GE Healthcare chief information security office Matt Silva said: “Our customers need visibility to what medical devices are connected to their networks and the right resources to mitigate potential threats. This new offering provides customers with 360˚ threat visibility and a resolution roadmap to help defend and protect against vulnerabilities.

“Our security operations center can augment customers’ in-house security teams by addressing cybersecurity events, as well as providing the latest information on malware and other malicious threats.”

Skeye makes use of AI-enabled tools along with the security operations centre to evaluate, monitor and help manage cybersecurity vulnerabilities.

It is a vendor-agnostic solution and helps safeguard networked medical devices, irrespective of age, OEM or operating system.

Its complete coverage begins with risk assessment and then moves to real-time networked device discovery.

A SOC team offers monitoring and threat detection and remediation for the linked medical devices through a GE Healthcare service contract.
