Carestream Dental Installs a Thousand CS 9600 Units

A thousand Carestream Dental CS 9600 CBCT systems have been installed, according to the company.

The CS 9600 can be used for almost all clinical procedures, from implants to guided surgery to orthodontic procedures, Carestream Dental said. It also integrates with dental software and third-party solutions, the company added, for end-to-end specialty workflows.

“Carestream Dental’s strength has always been its ability to take data and put it to work for clinicians,” said Dr. Ed Shellard, chief dental officer at Carestream Dental. “In the CS 9600, we see software algorithms, smart technology, and artificial intelligence (AI) combine to transform the way doctors diagnose, treat, and care for patients from the first scan through treatment and follow-up.”

Launched in 2018, the CS 9600 offers 120-kV imaging for increasing image quality, 14 fields of view ranging from 4 by 4 cm to 16 by 17 cm, and the Live Positioning Assistant to enhance imaging, Carestream Dental said. Algorithms that reduce metal artifacts, CS MAR, improve images even more for more confident diagnoses, the company said.

“the 120-kV imaging and CS MAR feature continue to impress me,” said Matthew Nichols, DDS, an oral and facial surgeon in Manchester, Tennessee. “All in all, I would say that you can’t beat the CS 9600."

To capture sharper images in a reproducible way, image processing software delivers ultra-sharp images, Carestream Dental said. When acquiring a panoramic image, Tomosharp technology recognizes the area where the anatomy is the sharpest and reconstructs the best possible image automatically. These sharper, well-positioned images enable better diagnostics, according to the company.

Patient positioning powered by AI is designed to automatically detect and trace the Frankfort plane to achieve proper positioning effortlessly and to reduce one of the most common positioning mistakes. Combined with video camera assistance and face-to-face positioning, this technology facilitates patient alignment, increases exam precision, and reduces the risk of retakes, Carestream Dental said.

“With the addition of smart features, such as the Live Positioning Assistant cameras, it’s quite simple for my staff to easily and efficiently position the patient in order to get precisely the image we need,” Nichols said.

The CS 9600 was designed to be scalable. The Scan Ceph module enables users to add an orthodontic feature to the system. Once a cephalometric image is captured, the auto-tracing feature automatically recognizes anatomical structures and traces them in a few seconds, instead of the five to 10 minutes that other orthodontic software takes, the company said.

With patient comfort in mind, an integrated seat and jewelry tray are designed to make it easy for patients to prepare themselves for imaging.

The CS 9600 also is the first Carestream Dental system to feature CS UpStream, which turns the system into a connected device. Data from the machine is constantly monitored and sent back to the company. If there ever is an issue with the system, technicians can review its historical performance to find solutions sooner, the company said.
