iF design award 2021: russian electric vehicle company SupremeMotors has developed the UNAwheel maxi, a device designed to help overcome some of the main mobility challenges faced by people with disabilities.

The simple, battery-powered add-on is able to transform a wheelchair into an electric vehicle. Compatible with both active and basic mechanical wheelchairs, the UNAwheel maxi accelerates to 20 km/h and can travel up to 30kms on a single charge.

The UNAwheel maxi features an adjustable steering wheel and a replaceable battery created as an add-on for conventional wheelchairs. The steering section is made from a combination of metal (hydroforming/cutting technology) and plastic (injection molding), the handles are made of rubber, and the main body of plastic (RIM). It is easy to operate and can be easily and quickly attached to and detached from the wheelchair.

According to the developers, the console fits almost any active wheelchair, and 30 seconds is enough to install a 12-kg mechanism.
