Osstem Implant’s K5 dental chair unit captivates customers around the world
SEOUL, Korea: After the global success of Osstem Implant’s K3 dental chair unit, more than 40,000 units having been sold in 72 countries, Osstem has officially announced the arrival of its successor, the K5 dental chair unit, for global distribution. Visitors to the company’s booth at the 2023 International Dental Show were captivated by this new-generation dental chair unit, which enhances all the best features of the K3.
Brought to life through interdisciplinary collaboration
The K5 dental chair unit was primarily developed from a mechanical engineering perspective to ensure stable engine torque and substantial power, in addition to improved adjustability. The K5 also features the latest in electronic innovation to enhance the functionality of the attached instruments, such as handpieces, an intra-oral camera and aspiration device, as well as a communication module that controls the instruments and sensors.
Osstem focuses on ensuring top-quality products globally and providing dental chair units that are designed to be robust. To achieve the highest level of quality, the company’s dental chair units undergo strict assessment procedures. The company evaluates 48 items across product reliability and convenience of use categories. For example, to test durability, the unit’s seat was loaded with a 150 kg weight 75,000 times. Corrosion resistance of metal components and plated or painted parts is measured through the use of a salt water spray test. Performance of the unit is tested under extreme conditions in a testing facility similar to that used in vehicle testing. An Osstem representative explained that these tests are used to ensure products work well for customers in various climates around the world. The company attributes a large contract for 1,500 K3 dental chair units from the Egyptian government in 2022 to the rigorous product assessments that ensured excellent product quality.
User-oriented design
The K3 dental chair unit has been Osstem’s global steady seller, and the K5 offers even more convenience and design improvements. The company gathered a significant amount of data to make key changes, such as providing sufficient space for clinicians to orient themselves around the chair and adding a tilting function to avoid the patient slipping during treatment. To ensure patient comfort during long procedures, Osstem developed an ergonomic seat to improve body pressure distribution. No detail was left untested. More than 70,000 tests were conducted on the paper cup dispenser alone to ensure even dispensing.
To further enhance the user experience of the K5 dental chair unit, Osstem provides nine stylish colour options, including signature black, dark violet and royal red. The K5 won in the medical and healthcare product design category of the 2022 iF DESIGN AWARD, one of the world’s top three design competitions. The K5 was given the award after meriting high marks in ergonomic design, user-friendly materials and outstanding colour configuration. The K5 also received the presidential award at the Good Design Korea competition hosted by the South Korean government in 2021.
Min Gyeong-Jae, director of the dental chair unit research and development centre at Osstem, said: “I believe the K3 and K5 are not just dental chair units but masterpieces, as they are equipped with complex functions through painstaking collaboration between specialists in diverse areas at Osstem Implant, including research and development, design, production, technological support and education.”
