COMPLETE REMOTE MONITORING FOR BABY

The Owlet Smart Sock and app

There are lots of cool pediatric gadgets and apps popping up in the mHealth space. Last week we covered the Mimo baby monitor, a special sensor for remotely monitoring a sleeping infant’s position, breathing rate and temperature.

The Owlet Smart Sock is similar in concept; a wearable device for baby that sends data to a caregiver’s smartphone, allowing real-time viewing and the ability to track vitals over time. The Owlet goes a step further than the Mimo and provides vital readings on heart rate and oxygen levels using pulse oximetry. The device is basically a hypoallergenic booty that envelopes medical-grade silicone, protecting baby from any contact with electric components.

Another unique feature of this device is a rollover alert. If the infant rolls onto its stomach, the Owlet Smart Sock sends immediately sends an alert to the caregiver’s smartphone.

Available for pre-order now for the price of $250, the Owlet Smart Sock is expected to be available Summer 2014.
