Abbott receives ce mark for absorb gt1 dissolving stent system

Abbott's Good News Bodes Well For Stent and Catheter System

Abbott recently announced that it has secured CE Mark for the latest version of its Absorb stent system, Absorb GT1, which combines its dissolving stent with a next generation catheter to help doctors treat people with coronary heart disease (CAD). Abbott Vascular Medical Affairs chief medical officer Charles Simonton, believes the Absorb GT1 system could help doctors improve patient treatment. He said, “Coronary artery disease is the most common disease in developed countries, and the new Absorb GT1 catheter delivery system may improve the ability of doctors to treat more people with CAD by opening up coronary blockages in hard-to-reach areas with this novel, fully dissolving stent.”

Absorb is on sale in more than 70 countries, and the company has made a submission for regulatory approval in Japan. However, the device is not currently approved for commercial use in the US and is for now only considered as an investigational device.
