Finnish Researchers Create Paper-Based Lateral Flow Assay for Morphine

Researchers from the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland have created a paper-based lateral flow assay for morphine testing. The technology, which can spot small target molecules was designed to detect a wide range of drugs, as well as for uses in clinical diagnostics. Antibody Fab fragments were used as sensing molecules. During in-house laboratory testing, the researchers showed that the paper assay was able to detect morphine at concentrations down to 1ng/mL.
