ECG MONITORING DEVICES GET SMALLER AND SMARTER

MedicalExpo Investigates ECG Monitoring Devices

Read our special feature on ECG monitoring devices, entitled “Going beyond the ‘at risk’ cardiac patients,” in the latest edition of MedicalExpo’s quarterly e-magazine. Ambulatory outpatient ECG monitoring devices have rapidly evolved over the last few decades, allowing suspected arrhythmias to be evaluated outside of hospitals and clinics. Recent technological advances have focused on increasing the efficiency, comfort, and convenience of these devices. This trend has been underpinned by improvements in electronics, wireless communication, data storage and power supply which has simplified the use of ECG monitoring devices capable of continuously acquiring data over much longer periods of time. Devices such as Zensor from Intelesens and Zio Patch of iRhythm Technologies are leading the way in accurate, patient friendly cardiac monitoring devices. The next big challenge is how to train clinicians to efficiently analyze and use the massive amounts of data generated by such devices.
