WE TALK TO EMOTIV’S KIM DU ABOUT OUT-OF-THE-LAB EEG

MedicalExpo Talks Out-of-the-Lab EEG Systems in the Latest Edition of Our E-Magazine

In our most recent quarterly e-magazine we speak to Kim Du, Vice-President of Corporate Development for Emotiv. Emotiv, based in California, has become the most outspoken advocate of out-of-the-lab EEG systems. Its EPOC headset has been used for pure consumer applications such as playing World of Warcraft but has also allowed disabled people to control electric wheelchairs. Although not a medically-approved device the EPOC has generated strong interest with some medical professionals. Ms Du believes the most spectacular health application of the system lies in the brain-computer interface area, she cites the case of an electric wheelchair being controlled via EPOC as evidence of its potential. She also speaks of how the device is being used in other parts of the world, for instance Bhutan, to provide a level of care for ALS patients.
