SECOND SIGHT ARGUS II

The world’s first bionic eye

Ready for a life-changing innovation? The world’s first bionic eye is arriving in the US, in December!

Argus II is a retinal implant meant to bring back vision to patients blinded by a degenerative eye disease, mainly retinitis pigmentosa. The FDA approved the device after tests enabled wearers to read the paper or view their environment in color. Basic activities for us – intense experiences for disabled people!

So, how does it function? Basically, the Argus II signals the optic nerve and transfers key information to the brain. To make this possible, an eyeglass-mounted camera is integrated to the structure and takes care of recordings.

At the moment, the Argus II is effective for conditions affecting the eye directly. Second Sight is currently working on an implant that would directly stimulate the patient’s’ brain and, hopefully, restore 20/20 vision.
