THE RECOVERY LOUNGE BY PRIESTMANGOODE

A recovery lounge concept that uses some surprising information

An airline might seem an unlikely source of inspiration for hospital design, but Preistmangoode’s Recovery Lounge borrows details from First Class airline cabins to create a modern and streamlined approach to recuperation. Intended for patients having undergone minor operations, the design is axed around cleanliness, efficiency and patient comfort. Space is optimized to allow for more beds per square meter, while giving patients a bit of privacy. Beds are also staggered, like in First Class airline cabins, to ensure that nurses have a clear view of all patients. To encourage easy and efficient cleaning, all corners have been rounded and furniture floats above the floor. Finally, the beds are adjustable to improve patient comfort and encourage speedier recovery. Clever design may not yet be absolutely crucial in medicine, but designs such as Priestmangoode’s prove the potential of making a good thing even better.
