Rapid assay tests for cardiovascular conditions

The cardiac reader system measures four different diagnostic assays that are important for the rapid diagnosis of cardiovascular conditions.

Rapid assay tests for cardiovascular conditions. Myoglobulin, the earliest indicator of acute myocardial infarction, is detected with the assay Cardiac M, whereas Troponin T, indicative of myocardial damage, is detected with Cardiac T. To assess presence of congestive heart failure, assay Cardiac proBNP detects NT-proBNP, a natureiretic peptide released by the heart as a reaction to volume overload. Cardiac D-Dimer is a rule-out marker for deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism in patients demonstrating inconclusive symptoms. For each assay test, a sample of heparinised whole blood is applied to the strip, which is then inserted into the reader. The instrument directs the user through all steps necessary to achieve the result. Reaction times are between eight and twelve minutes, depending on the test used. Results correlate to current laboratory methods.
