Scatter Matters: Best Practices for Radiation Protection in the Cath Lab

Webinar by RaySafe, Landauer and Egg Medical

Ionizing radiation is a necessary part of the job when you work in a cath lab – but it carries several occupational health risks. Due to scatter, traditional shielding such as aprons, drapes, and goggles don’t always provide the necessary protection, particularly in certain areas around the table. In addition, passive dosimeters are not able to assist in reducing exposure in real-time.

In this webinar, we will review the health risks associated with working in a cath lab. Then, using real-time data, we will demonstrate the ways in which radiation is scattered around the room, where staff is most vulnerable, and how the patient and shielding can impact exposure levels. You will learn the various methods of reducing exposure to scatter radiation using the EggNest shielding systems. Finally, we’ll talk about the difference between passive and real-time dosimetry and demonstrate how the RaySafe i3 dosimetry system visualizes radiation exposure in real-time to reduce or prevent accumulated dose.

Panelists included in this webinar are Dr. Bob Wilson, Interventional Cardiologist at the University of Minnesota and Co-founder/CEO Egg Medical and Jackie Doffing, RT (R) (CT) (MR), LANDAUER.

This webinar is pending approval for 1.0 ASRT Category A credit.
